In a world of multimedia a black and white guide book (with a few photos tucked at the front 1980's style) seems very dated and devoid of stimulation. Especially considering that people will be purchasing this before a dream break/holiday to Disneyland Paris.
Under the plain veneer this Unofficial Guide is packed full of honesty and presents the data in a very useful manner. Early chapters cater for those still planning, with useful phone numbers, as well as guides on time management in terms of time of year and length of stay. After detail on Disney's hotels, amenities and travel planning the final fifth concerns the rides. The authors cleverly rate each ride for various age groups from pre-school to senior, ideal for families (most of the visitors I assume), as well as detailing how scary it is and what time of day to frequent it. As with the whole book, description are honest and offer just the right amount of insight.
Not too lengthy, although larger than most travel books, the authors seem to have the right balance. It's just a shame it lacks any visual treats amidst the content.
The folks who brought you the humungous but entertaining Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World and the Unofficial Guide to Disneyland have written an interesting and irreverent look at the French Magic Kingdom. The great thing about the Unofficial Guides is that they're fun to read as well as helpful and loaded with information, and this book definitely continues that tradition.
There's a little bit of repitition from the books about the American parks, but fortunately, that's been kept to a minimum, and the book even hasa a couple of features that are no longer found in the U.S. guidebooks, like the comparison between what's found at DLP and at the U.S. parks. This new version of the Guide (the author's written two previous versions of this guidebook)is written primarily for a British audience, so a few of the terms and a little of the language may throw some American readers, but it's hardly a major drawback.
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that the authors will do an Unofficial Guide to the Asian Disney parks sometime soon. In the meantime, this book will be a big help for a future trip!
Decent travel guide. I am not the biggest fan of travel guides as I feel you can get a lot more information and up to date advice online. I only read travel books if I borrow them from the library.
