Man from Macedonia: My Life of Service, Struggle, Faith, and Hope
In telling his life story, Rev. Aaron Johnson takes us to the front lines of the fight for civil and human rights in our country over the last fifty years. Whether being beaten and dragged from a dime store lunch counter, standing blindfolded before a Ku Klux Klan meeting, or praying arm-in-arm with a death-row inmate, Johnson shows us how human hatred and fear smells, sounds and feels-and how it feels to empower others with hope and trust.
Told with humility and humor, Johnson's story reminds us that one individual-with focus and faith-can effect great change despite repeated hurdles. Readers will come to know Aaron Johnson as a friend and inspiring hero who suspects that God still has a few projects waiting for him on his to-do list.

Awesome book about a great man of courage and faith. A man who made a real difference. When this was on my to read shelf I kept putting it off because I thought it would be a dry text book like tome. I couldn't have been more wrong. It reads like a novel. It at times had me laughing others crying. I so enjoyed it. Also, it was a very good tutorial about the Civil Rights Movement that I only thought I knew about. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I love true stories of courageous people. Dr. Johnson played a most important role in the American Civil Rights movement of the 60's. He inspired others to take the high road. He did this through being a voice of reason and humility. He followed with a demonstration through his actions. Heroes walk among us. Aaron Johnson inspires us to live uncommon lives which yearn to make the world a better place.

‘Autobiography’ is a genre which can be a bit of a turnoff for some. Worse still when the person is unknown to the reader. However Man from Macedonia is an exception to the rule. This is the powerful and gripping tale of a man so instrumental to the Civil Rights movement that at one point in the book he is successfully negotiating a resolution between Klan members and Panthers.
The book is a fascinating cocktail of homespun stories of a sharecropper’s son growing up in the rural south, inspirational tales of a country preacher, historically significant accounts of a civil rights organizer, and action-packed narratives of an undercover agent and a political leader.
The book has spiritual inspiration, action, true crime and political intrigue all wrapped up in the heartwarming tale of a man so brave and genuine that he will be your hero long before the extremely satisfying conclusion.
It doesn’t hurt that Johnson’s decades as a speaker, negotiator, and minister have given him a narrative style so engaging that it slips like butter off the page, and that the book’s coauthor is an experienced and excellent writer.
Johnson’s story weaves through six decades, treading on so many milestones of recent American history. Johnson rubs shoulders with Martin Luther King, Ronald Regan and the director of staff responsible for the Watergate scandal. So this may easily stand as a history book among its many other attributes.
This book has so much going for it, that it should be recommended reading for everyone.
