French Fries Up Your Nose

Rate this book
With his bookbag full of stinkbombs and pepper candy and every practical joke known to mankind, Iggy Sands is every teacher's nightmare. He hates math, he hates school assemblies, and he especially hates that snooty Caitlen Cohane.

So why, all of a sudden, is Iggy running for student council president? And making speeches? And being nice to Caitlen? Drool and Ed, his best and only friends, warn him that it'll take more than a trunkful of magic to be a winner this time.

Did not finish
What is this book trying to do? Half way through and I'm getting the opposite of what I was promised.

Cover
Making to Chapter 10 this cover doesn't make complete sense. Quick skimming through this book it does appear in chapter 12. With it actually being in the story I can't really criticize it but it's not the personality I was presented in the first half. (I'll get to that later.)

Over all the cover really isn't that bad but strangely our main character Iggy looks creepier on the back. Granted it just a rip off over the front but it's looks more natural among other students. Also that's not what I pictured Simon Ackmar in the background. (Again between that smile and eyes he also looks sort of creepy.

Interior
While I found the first ten chapter increasingly slow they did build a the characters well. Again I'll say this. It takes itself way to serious for a title about food up your nose. This title started to bother me with each chapter I finished. Front cover, back cover nothing prepared me for how serious this book and our main character took itself.
It barely got much of a chuckle from me. It's pretty meanspirited. (No pun intended.) But then again this is pretty much the bullies redemption arc. I do like the touches that he isn't a complete vindictive brute and it has a decent pacing to flip his character at the end.

Main reason I ditched the book?
Doing a Séance and conjuring up a Demon. (Demons/Ghosts no difference.) Yeah didn't see that advertised on the back cover. This is too much for me to support or struggle through. Honestly I think it's too much for this book. Your main pitch is French Fries in your nose not how a dead mentor can win a election, the girl, and save friendships. You taking yourself too serious for the title your offering.

I have to confess the pacing is With that I'm confused with most between chapter 10 and him shoving food in this nose on 12. (Without reading it. It feels a little out of place with his slow progress of being out of the spotlight while creating chaos and in the spotlight to get votes.) (He's not exactly a class clown and more of a methodical prank mastermind. (My opinion.)

The title of the novel really out me off as I don't think such s stunt as suggested is a good suggestion to young readers. I am a retired teacher and I know the impulse suggestibility that appears to middle school kids.
Also an election for student council president seems to be a bit young for an elementary school setting, as this seemed to feel more like a middle school setting.
But all in all an interesting read, well written and presented.
