Tina Stearnes knows life couldn't get any better when she finally divorces her womanizing husband and media mogul Damon Stearnes. Life is all the more sweeter when her wealthy ex who still gets her hot as fire agrees to continue to finance her lavish lifestyle - - of course with strings attached. She soon finds her perfect world turned upside down when her past literally comes knocking at her front door as her brutally abusive ex - boyfriend Randy Black resurfaces. He makes all kinds of crazy demands and threatens to harm everyone close to her including her vivacious 21 year old daughter if she doesn't meet his outrageous request. She is forced into the position of sacrificing herself to someone she hates and fears the most to protect those she loves the most.
Tina, and Damon are the divorce parents of a teenager daughter.Damon has since remarried, but tina still has feelings for him.Even though he creeps over to her house every now and then for some nooky.I gave it three stars because it started off ok I was really getting into it until it change up with me figuring out where was the author going with the story. It started with Tina, and her ex-husband Damon and their situation they had,but without notice it takes you back to her colleges days when she first met Randy who at first is a dream come true.He sweeps her off her feet then later on down the line he mentally, and physiclly abuse her. The plot seem choppy because I was settling into her,and Damons strange relationship then it takes you back to her being abuse by a man from when she was in college.Well she wasn't in college after the abuse started. After six years with randy it tells you how she meets Damon. Abuse is a serious situation, and it's not to be taken litely. But, I really couldn't get into it without trying to see where the story was going. Also the punctiation was bit sparatic( this just my opinion)but some the sentences was cut off.The book version might be very different from where I download it from.
While we all may know someone who has been battered, controlled or is controlling, not all can relate to what Tina Stearnes endured for more than half of her life. Some may grow irritated with her as she often lacked the strength to free herself; some may pity her because she lacked that strength; some may even empathize with her because they have been in her shoes. There is at least one area in “Control Issues” where anyone could relate, whether is the constant controlling, naïve love, supportive friends, or damaged family—all realistic. Brown tells a compelling story, one that is so entertaining until I found myself picking it up to read in the middle of the night. I just had to know if or how Tina was going to escape the mess she was in. Never a dull moment in “Control Issues”. With some editing, this book is certainly on its way to Classic status.
If you buy this book you have to start it first thing in the morning because you will not be able to put it down until the very last page. The domestic violence between Tina and Randy was just so brutally real. It had me thinking why, and is this woman crazy! Damon was obviously Tina's soul mate, but he had so may issues himself it's no wonder they were able to make quasi relationship work for so long. This a great read, definitely pick it up.
