This book may speak most effectively to economically privileged Christian parents who were adults in the 80's and 90's - and maybe still haven't recovered from the experience. It does discuss issues of self- acceptance, forgiveness, and healing from childhood misperceptions.

Personally, I could not relate to 90% of the highly personal content nor 99% of the way she presented or addressed it. It became repetitive and the logic and organization harder to follow as the book progressed.

Further, I felt a little cheated by the subtitle. "A Devotional Adventure"? There was very little adventure involved at all - and often very little devotional, now that i think about it.

The book also hasn't aged well, with old, shaming references to "naval gazing" and the expectation of very traditional gender roles. However, I was proud of the author for challenging some of those expectations in her chapter on the masculinity and femininity of God. She was ahead of her time.

While the reflections on the biblical stories and passages did not seem particularly insightful, I did appreciate that she was engaging them personally. I found it encouraging if not profound. But I'm afraid I won't be recommending this book to anyone and will, in fact, be donating it on the off chance that it will find a more fitting audience and home.

I bought this book because someone said it was life changing and I have to agree. This book is set up as a 40 day devotional where each day Signa helps you to engage with God on a particular topic. Although it's designed as a 40 day book, some days took me weeks. I'm so glad I bought the book because it did transform my life. I think it transforms if you are willing to put in the work and engage with God. Life would be so simple if we could by the book on Amazon but you have to order it from her church. I think you send in the check and they mail you the book. It

Set up as a 40 day devotional (that I think would be tough to complete in 40 days, it's so full of depth), I love how the author focuses on only four different biblical figures and their stories. During each day, she includes prompts for listening prayer and rather than telling us what to imagine, she suggests I ask God. Much depth in this one, I highly recommend it.
