I won this on Goodreads! Yay! And when it arrived, Ms. Perry had stuck a little note for me on the cover, which she probably did for everyone, but it made me that much more inclined to like the book.

The book was a cute, fast read about Cassie, a New York socialite who's all business and morals, who meets Jonny, who's none of that. He's an actor that has never heard the word no until he meets Cassie, and for some reason that "no" is more enticing than all the "yes"s he'd had in the past. I liked the concept and sotry, which was cute and fun. I liked Cassie who was very proper, but was just waiting to break out of her shell and actually have a life. I liked Jonny, too, and felt bad when she wouldn't give himt he time of say. The progression of their relationship as friends was also refreshing. My issue with the book was that it was so well written. Yes, you read that right. When I first started reading, I was a little put off by how perfect the narrative was. There were a lot of big words and long sentences that seemed like they'd be from a research paper rather than a novel. Also, the dialogue never really flowed. Some of the things they said, no one would ever say in real life. For example, Jonny says something about Cassie being out of his league, but rather than just saying that, he says some long flowery sentence. I don't think someone who's supposed to come across as a playboy would speak quite that eloquently. I assume it's written that way to show the upscale living of the New Yorkers, like Cassie who was educated at Yale, and Jonny, who you later find graduated from Princeton. Rather than finding it intelligent, I thought it sounded stiff. With that said, after a while, I stopped noticing it, and got into the story. My only other issue was that some of the characters were underdeveloped. I kept getting Daniel confused with the limo driver. I still don't know who Daniel is. People kept popping up, and I'd be like "Oh yeah them... wait... is that them? Nevermind, I'll just pretend it's them." Other than that I enjoyed the story and romance between the characters. It was a quick read and just what I needed for a busy weekend.
Pluses:
It was free!
The author wrote me a note :)
I liked the main characters
Cute romance
Quick, relaxing read
Pretty cover

Negatives:
Stiff dialogue and narrative
Confusing cast of side characters
Cliche (but that's not really a negative because everyone loves a cute yet cliche ending ;)

Overall: 3.5-4 stars

I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway, and I was really excited. It was the first time I won a Goodreads giveaway, plus the book arrived within a few days with a note from the author. She autographed it as well. Very sweet and very cool! I couldn't read it right away because I was into The Hunger Games series and had to get back into the "romance" frame of mind.

Anyway, the book started off a little slow for me, and I had a hard time getting into it at first. After the first couple chapters, I got more into it as the main characters seemed to develop more and be more open with each other (more comfortable, less stiff); and I learned more about why they were more closed off in the beginning. Then I was intrigued and wanted to see how the romance would/would not blossom, and of course how it would end.

Thanks again to Goodreads & Sandi Perry for allowing me the opportunity to receive, read, & review this book. I look forward to reading more of Sandi Perry's works.

Won this book on Goodreads in the giveaway contest. And I must say I enjoyed it and the cute sticky note from the author made me smile, thank you Ms Perry. Here is the review:

She is like a fine wine, which needs to be savoured and appreciated. He is a commitment-phobe cassanova. She is a classy, uptight, adorable Manhattan socialite named Cassandra Whitney. He is Johnny Duponi, her nightmare man, a bad boy, an actor, a #1 sexiest man according to the filmdom tabloids. One days those two different universes come across each other at a party where they're introduced to each other, what will be the outcome of this meeting? Will they become friends, or maybe something more?
A very charming and endearing story, fun to read and the style in which it is written makes it enjoyable to read. Reading each chapter felt like eating a chocolate sweets out of the chocolate box. A true remedy for any girls' problem. Leaves you optimistic with life.

I won this book in a GoodReads giveaway and it arrived so quickly! I received it 2 days after I got notice that I won it. When it arrived, I found a post-it note on the cover with a little message from the author. She also signed the cover page for me, which I thought was really sweet.

Anyways, for the first hundred pages, I just could NOT get into the book. The book is written in a really straightforward and stiff manner that I just couldn't get past. Plus, I found the dialogue to be unrealistic and awkward. I felt there was really little character development and at first, it seemed like Cassie was just a snob that judged Jonny immediately based on his looks. It wasn't until later in the book that the author backtracks to say WHY Cassie felt this way about Jonny. After the first kiss is when I started to get into the story and it was a quick read from that point on.

Perry gives us a sneak peek into the world of the rich and famous. Her dialogue and character richness shows in this one. You almost feel like you are walking alongside these characters. The dialogue will have you laughing and crying. Cassie thinks that she doesn’t need Jonny’s love and she finds out differently as she changes. Cassie also will learn a lot about herself and Jonny turns out to be the person that she has been waiting for. Perry has a great skill to hook you into her characters and take you along a journey about love and how it can save us in so many ways. If you looking into a sweet contemporary romance, then Love Doesn’t Play by the Rules will certainly teach that love is blind, but words speak volumes.

I was pleasantly surprised by this modern romance novel. Its not "harlequin-ish" at all, and is a nice blend of real celebrity characters with completely imaginary ones. I fell in love with the main characters within the first 2 chapters and rooted for them the whole way through. Very satisfying and could be a story of anyone who has ever fallen in love...minus the movie star and trust-fund baby persona's :)

This was an easy summer read. It's a good chick-lit book if you want a quick and entertaining book. It is an easy plot but still enjoyable.
