The authors present the history of gardening on twenty Colonial Williamsburg sites, focusing on the eighteenth-century gardeners who planted them and the documentary and archaeological research that guided each garden's re-creation. Detailed plans and captivating photographs identify the plantings and show modern gardeners ways to enjoy the beauty of colonial gardens in their own yards
Borrowed this book from the library to start prepping for a trip to Colonial Williamsburg. I’m not that into (or particularly good at) gardening but gardens can be beautiful to look at. Also, the gardens are one of the attractions at Colonial Williamsburg - the conservators there are trying to keep everything (gardens, homes, shops, etc) in the same shape that they were in when this was an active site, rather than a site for conservation & historical interpretation. Anywho, back to the original point - the book. This was a good book. A bit dry, though. Regardless, I enjoyed it. Decent information, great photos, & everything looked beautiful. I feel ready for my trip (at least the first step towards “ready”).
