Translated by Henrik Rosenmeier, A History of Ancient Philosophy charts the origins and development of ancient philosophical thought. For easy reference, the book is divided chronologically into six main parts. This comprehensive and meticulously documented book is structured to make ancient philosophical thought and ancient thinkers accessible. It *full references to primary sources *detailed interpretations of key philosophical passages, including surveys of previous philosophical readings *an overview of the development of ancient philosophical thought *discussions of the relationships between philosophers and their ideas *analyses of key philosophical concepts and ideologies including ontology, epistemology, logic, semantics, moral and political philosophy, theology and aesthetics *explanations of Greek philosophical terminology.
With very few works do I admit defeat and review them uncompleted. After over 2 years of effort, I must succumb to the inevitable conclusion that the density, detail, and paucity of summary Johansen leaves Plato and Aristotle with for the reader renders the work tasteless and counterproductive. There is an exceptional level of nuance and detail within A History of Ancient Philosophy : so much detail that this humble reader could not stay the course and continue to learn. This isn’t to say there aren’t interesting parts, especially within the brief summaries of almost-forgotten philosophers like Anaxagoras. Nonetheless, I would highly recommend, if you're interested in the history of philosophy more broadly and with more memorable enthusiasm, to consult Russel's A History of Western Philosophy instead.
ostatak knjige doduše... its not that serious
