About the author

Aasmund Olavsson Vinje var ein norsk forfattar, journalist, lærar og jurist.

Vinje var ein av dei fyrste etter Ivar Aasen sjølv som aktivt tok i bruk landsmålet, i både prosa og lyrikk. Med kjende dikt som «Våren», «Ved Rundarne», «Den dag kjem aldri» og «Blåmann», har han vorte ståande for ettertida som ein av dei mest folkekjære lyrikarane i Noreg. Lyrikken hans vart til i overgangstida mellom Henrik Wergeland sin død i 1845 og det såkalla moderne gjennombrotet, og vert gjerne litteraturhistorisk plassert under den poetiske realismen.

Han var dessutan ein markant føregangsmann innanfor norsk journalistikk, både som Christiania-korrespondent i Drammens Tidende og med sitt eige blad Dølen. Vinje markerte seg som ein retorisk medviten kritikar av både samfunnstilhøve, politikk og litteratur, og som ein som hadde tvisyn, altså som såg sakene frå to sider
