It has been six years since I first read book number one, and I had totally forgotten just how much I enjoyed this series! Phenomenally fully-fledged characters, cracking worldbuilding and great storytelling. You'll either love or hate the level of silly humour. (I LOVE IT! So funny.)
You don't need to read Cooper's other works before reading these, but to fully enjoy the nods to other books and the inclusion of well-loved characters, I would suggest reading 'The Feedback Loop' series. I felt like a kid at Christmas, opening these little presents especially for us.
I giggled all the way through these books and wondered what goes through the brain of the person putting pen to paper/voice to text. I can feel the fun he has, however, you'll go through every other emotion too, believe me.
The additional novella included in this volume, 'Jatla is not a Sh*thole', is a wee excursion into Hiccup the goblin's world of lies, double-dealing, and ficking hilarity. You should be very thankful that these books do not contain 'Smell'O'Rama' or you would be turning green! And that is coming from someone living in a small flat with two (very) farty and odour-filled vegetarians...
If you didn't read these first time around, clear your diary and settle in for some fun and games with The Mitherfickers™!
I ended up not finishing this book. Too much of the same stuff throughout the book; juvenile humor, unlikable characters, (especially Hiccup), storyline that wasn't interesting, and an excessive amount of fluff. I usually like LitRPG, but this book was pretty awful. The author wants you to believe the MC Ryuk is 19, but his decisions making and actions are about the maturity of a 12 year old child. Except for some gruesome parts, I think this book was written with maybe the 9 to 14 year old age group in mind. I definitely would not recommend this book for adults.
It has been a few years since I first listened to Fantasy Online, and I had forgotten just how much I enjoyed it. Great characters, the worldbuilding is solid and then there's the great storytelling. The banter is spot on and the little update about Brexit was hilarious. The funniest part of listening to this was watching the two pups Hiccup and Snowballs having twitching ears every time they heard their names, trying to work out who was calling them.
Harmon writes great books, and to fully enjoy the nods to other characters like Quantum please go pick up the Feedback Loop series, as that will make sense of the character mentions. Jeff Hays is brilliant and you can tell that he enjoys his work
The additional novella included with this volume 'Jatla is not a Sh*thole', is a trip into Hiccup the goblin's world of lies, double-dealing, fickery, and gas (lots of it). These books do not contain 'Smell'O'Rama' or you would probably turn green! However, for us, Hiccup lives up to her namesake's character and provided some gas to make the novella a more immersive experience for us.
Clear your diary and settle in for some fun with The Mitherfickers™ - You won't regret it.
This is LitRPG material at its best. While this is a rerelease of the author's earlier Fantasy Online series, I never read those works so this is all new to me. This book includes the first two books of the original series plus a bonus novella, so certainly a good start. The story is well written and easy to read with a well developed setting, both in game and real world. And both are mentioned here because the action takes place in both worlds, making for a very unique experience. The characters are great, well developed and equipped with diverse personalities the bring the story to life. We get a nice blend of action and humor along with plenty of RPG stats and fun. Overall, I really enjoyed this introduction to the world and I look forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from the author for review purposes.
As a fan of Cooper from his Feedback Loop days this is a great boxset as we see the continuation of more Proxima Galaxy characters. For those new to Coopers older work, then this is a mish mash of adventure, craziness and mad writing skills bringing a futurestic virtual world into the forefront of enjoyment. Coopers style with this is really well done as the real world and virtual both play an important part of the narrative, and both worlds are at risk. It's taken a while to bring the books together to form a more suitably interactive size but the wait has been worth it as it just makes it easier to appreciate the madness and action that has been weaved through the series. With the 2nd part due out soon this means I won't have to wait for the conclusion or the new extra which I also appreciate.
I can't explain how extremely excited I am for this story and just how damn amazing it is.
I don't want to spoil ot for new readers but every needs to know the glory of Hiccup and his boy Marbles Aka Ryuk this story has been one of my mainstays and I've reread it multiple times. Now that it's back and badder then ever everyone needs to read it.
Don't miss out in the insanity inside this story. You will laugh as loud as you ever have before cause it's that damn good.
Don't forget to #feetwixrocks when you pester Harmon to get us more of this story and badger with the uncle goblin because this story and series will leave you wanting more
11 out of 10 for how amazing this world building and storyline is.
This was an unusual book, long but interesting and amusing with Hiccup, the goblin, being the center of attention. as a new reader it took me a while to get used to the writing but afterwards I could only stop reading in order to sleep. There is a plot and I would be interesting to find out what happens with the guild members as they form and each contributes to the whole in some form or another. But Hiccup will keep you rolling with laughter.
You get 2 books, most excellently written. Plus a prequel to the first book. If you also get the audio... amazing performance. You'll definitely enjoy this LitRPG. There's not too many Stat Sheets... and the MC's Huge list of stats and skills are placed at the end of the book for convenience.
This series has a decent amount of twists and turns in it that keep you wondering what will happen next. It also makes you wonder why anyone would ever trust a goblin.
Three books in one, first to people reroll there characters and start a new journey filled with strife. In the second book they find out who is attacking the group. And the last book is a prequel featuring our grumpy goblin and the trouble he got in. An amazing book, and I look forward to the next set.
