About the author

Donna moved to Michigan in 1971 when she married and left her hometown of Brockport, New York. She began penning novels in 1982 while working full time for an electronics firm in Grand Rapids.
She resigned from her job in 1984 following a contract offer for her first book. Since then, Thomas Nelson Publishers, Zondervan Publishing House, Guideposts, and Bigwater Publishing have published her novels. Her husband, Fred, a former American History teacher, shares her enthusiasm for history. Together, they visited historical sites, restored villages, museums, and lake ports, purchasing books and reference materials for use in Donna’s research.
In October 2015 Donna became a permanent resident of New Mexico.
Donna has written more than a dozen historical romances for her Great Lakes Romances® series.

Another well-written and researched captivating historical fiction romance novel by Donna Winters. Especially enjoy and appreciate learning the historical facts surrounding the Ojibway Indians of the Upper Peninsula in Michigan, interwoven into an intriguing story. Jenny, who visited a mission in the area with her mother, agreed to remain to teach related to the sudden loss of their previous teacher. While spreading Christianity, she comes to learn the various customs of the tribe, especially noticing handsome Hawk, who is assigned as her guide. Through many trials and tribulations, she learns the customs of the tribe and soon their respect. Without revealing the conclusion, this novel is highly recommended to anyone who loves American History and a sweet and clean romance.

This was an interesting story of a young woman named Jenny, whose "vacation" to visit the missionaries ministering to a local Indian tribe, turns into a chance for her own ministering to the Ojibways, and a beautiful love. With drama, hard-learned lessons, and sweet moments, Jenny of L'Anse Bay makes for a more intense, but short and good read.

I enjoyed reading this book. I'm glad I didn't let the cover keep me from reading it. Dated 1994 this book will be timeless for any reader who enjoys historical romance. The historic time period which involves missionaries and the Ojibway tribe in Michigan is really interesting.
