Although many organizations have embraced SharePoint, most just scratch the surface of its potential to provide comprehensive business process automation solutions--even though all the components are there to do so. Written by two SharePoint MVPs, this comprehensive guide shows you step by step how to build solutions to real-world problems using SharePoint 2010 and leverage the exciting new workflow capabilities Microsoft introduced in the platform. The authors dive into a variety of common challenges that companies face every day and explore them in great detail--while also offering specific instructions and screenshots--so you can confidently know when and how to use SharePoint Designer as well as Visual Studio.
What I expected was a guide to SharePoint workflows with easy-to-follow examples. What I found was the illusion of easy-to-follow examples, but the first practical hands-on example was so riddled with typos, missing instructions, and errors, I was unable to successfully create the intended workflow. At this point, I am unlikely to continue with the book, and would never recommend this as a learning tool.
While the accompanying website wrox.com does have a section dedicated to the book's errata, I feel it is beyond my responsibilities as a reader to have to navigate through these to try and make sense of Chapter Three's detailed technical implementation (or the first lab, in simpler terms). Obviously all books of a technical nature are subject to the odd typo or error, and I can be forgiving in these instances. However, as the authors indicate that the workflows generated by following these pages will be utilized in later labs, I feel justified in expecting that more careful attention should have been paid to the numerous documented errors between pages 42-46, which make this chapter virtually incomprehensible.
