" This Pope, who with great wisdom and strong hand has guided for thirty-two years the bark of Peter, which in many violent storms had been rocked to and fro, he who well knew the great dangers of our times, regarded the rosary as a conquering weapon. "

There are many books on rosary, but this a great thing to add to your reading, and it's slim so a very quick read. It's not a how-to guide, but each chapter seems to be like a sermon preached. The book is dated 1912 but must be older since the writer died in 1895.

Some things are same as in some other rosary books, like the story of the origins of the practice and some details on each part. But there's also some things I haven't known or thought about much, such as the rose symbolism, the usefulness the devotion has had regarding battles, epidemics, conversions and of course motivation for improvement in virtues. The rosary is excellent in covering the vocal and contemplative part in a single form of prayer.

You can also tell its of its time - the writer doesn't have much sympathy for other forms of Christianity, but on the other hand his opinion isn't so severe as to make his opinion weigh this otherwise excellent book down. So if you want some more good meditation on the rosary and its usefulness, this is not a bad read to do. :)

This is a really beautiful short read that describes where the rosary came from, why we say each prayer, and how the rosary helps our spiritual growth.

This is a set of lectures given for a conference by Rev. Frings in 1912, and they are still relevant today. These lectures, though scholarly, are easily read. They explain and expound upon the various parts of the Rosary, giving the layperson a deeper understanding. I highly recommend this short book.
