Can't really remember the book all that well, but it was the novelisation of the film which is a great bit of Ozploitation cinema. A production of the 1970's and doesn't it show. The only female characters are travelling crackers (prostitutes), and the fellers, an outback wildcat mining crew, just drink, gamble and blue (fight). Based on a play, 'The Last of the Knucklemen' is a time capsule snapshot of a thankfully (... sort of) vanished, medieval blokey era.
