In the nineties I was collecting old computers. My first pc (a 286) having cost two thousand dollars in the eighties, I was determined to learn how to build and repair my own and those of friends. So I collected machines and their parts, reading books relevant to the work including this one which came, I believe, with a U.S. Robotics modem. As it happened, computer prices plummeted while performance skyrocketed. Few friends were interested in the machines I had--and still have--down in the basement. But I did learn enough to be able to stop buying computers.
