Trust God for Your Finances

Rate this book
Trust God for Your Finances is a detailed, in-depth study of exactly what the Bible has to say about success and prosperity. The principles in this book are not theoretical. They have worked successfully in Jack Hartman’s life and in the lives of many people who have followed these principles. Jack carefully points out the differences between the world’s system of prosperity and God’s laws of prosperity. He explains that all of the warnings in the Bible against financial prosperity are warnings against following the world’s system of prosperity. God’s Word clearly indicates that He does want us to prosper as long as this prosperity is achieved by following His laws of prosperity. These laws are laid out in detail in sixteen chapters of specific instruction -- every chapter filled with many verses of Scripture. The book closes with a unique “test” in which readers can test themselves on their knowledge of God’s laws of prosperity. Jack Hartman believes that our economy is going to experience a definite down-turn and he urges all Christians to study and apply God’s specific instructions for prosperity and success. God’s laws of prosperity are not in any way dependent upon the condition of a man-made economic system. Now is the time to start learning and applying these laws.

So I will be the first to write a review of this book. It is common AMWAY fare. This is a book meant to give you rules to follow for prosperity. The bible does contain teaching on finances but Mr. Hartman does the reader an injustice. He leans into the "name-it and claim-it" doctrine. This says that if you say something negative you will absolutely bring it to pass. He also calls this sin and tells the reader to repent of their sin and to ask forgiveness. Conversely, if you only say positive things then if it is a promise of God then you are claiming it for yourself and you must receive it. God has to give it to you.
As is popular with the health and wealth doctrine of many Mr. Hartman also takes many verses out of context to be used in such a manner as suits his purpose. All in all not a great read for managing finances.
Why 2 stars? His direction on saturating yourself with God's Word and methods for Bible study and meditation on God's Word are solid. One problem with his chosen bible study method is that it usually leaves out context so you may think an isolated verse is saying one thing while in context it means something completely different. Otherwise the bible study method is sound if used with context in mind.

This book does an excellent job at explaining what prosperity means through the Bible. He provides scriptures and makes connections as to how God challenges us both to pursue prosperity for selfish gain, but to serve a bigger purpose of pursuing heavenly things. He breaks down tithes and offering, providing context on the purpose and benefits that comes from regularly doing. He also discussing the value of receiving and giving, the earthly and heavenly gains and most importantly, knowing Christ in the midst of it all. When we look at the life of Christ, he was in the business of giving, without expecting anything in return. His heart posture was what opened the flood gates of heaven and letting it rain of prosperity and peace. Giving allows us to be reflect the heart of God and receiving allows us to experience Christ in the eyes of God. This is definitely an excellent resource!
