Emily Paret Atwater (1873-? ) was the author Tommy's Adventures (1900), How Sammy Went to Coral-Land (1920) and In Ocean Land (1927). "They had been spending a month at the seashore, grandma, Bob and Eleanor. Little Bob had been very ill in the spring, and when hot weather came the doctor ordered sea air and sea bathing to bring back color to the pale cheeks, and strength to the thin little body. "
I couldn't enjoy the story much. I felt there should have been more adventures and bit strong characters. I loved the description of sea lives and took me back to gramma's storytelling days.
I listened to the audio version via USF Lit2Go and it's a pretty great kids story. It brings together facts about sea life with the fun and imagination of Sammy the Salmon. A few important themes include bravery in the face of danger and finding what you want, especially when it's right in front of you. Although, I haven't read it in print, I'm going to say this would be one to read aloud. The story really lends itself to that element.
