A Page From The Past

The first warning is swift and to the point, but bookstore owners Glenn and Lindsay Reade don't 'get it' until their lives are threatened a second time. All they've done is read a young girl's diary and attempt to locate the owner. Just because the journal describes the girl's rape and subsequent murder of the rapist is no reason for anyone to want them dead, is it? The book is obviously more than forty years old. Who in the tiny Berkshire town of Paris, Massachusetts could still care? But someone does. And that someone is willing to kidnap and murder to protect their long buried secret.

It’s always the small towns that contain the deepest, darkest secrets. When Glenn and Lindsay find an old diary, they are horrified at what they read inside but since the thing is half a century old, they push it out of their heads. Until their lives become endangered.

Running from the Past was a wonderful whodunit which kept me flipping pages, wanting to know all I could about the characters and the mystery they found themselves in.

The story is developed around the discovery of a 40-year old diary, written by a teenager named Aura Lee. Her diary outlines her life, family, and her rape by a boy name Jimmy. Jimmy is found dead, days later, and Aura Lee is convinced she is responsible.

Flash forward: What began as a typical Monday, traveling their pick-up route, Lindsay and Glenn Reade, two ordinary booksellers, are thrust into the epicenter of a murder-mystery when they discover the little blue diary. Reading the words of Aura Lee, they are heartbroken and feel compelled to find the author. From that moment, their lives would never be the same.

"A Page From The Past" is a compelling story of intrigue and mystery where nothing is as it seems. Despite some continuity issues toward the middle of the novel, Davis weaves an intricate web that will catch the reader and keep them entangled until the very end.

Glenn and Lindsay are a married couple with great jobs, they buy and sell old books. Finding an old diary though is going to send the two on a twisted mystery and into danger. This is a well written mystery. The copy on my e-reader did have some problems with the formatting that was a bit distracting at first, but I was able to get lost in the story and ignore that. The author does a good job bringing characters to life and I loved the relationship between Glenn and Lindsay. For a three hundred page book this was a quick and interesting read.

An old diary, a mystery, a possible rape, murder and a dog-napping add up to a whole lot of action. I held my breath all the way through a fire scene - phew that was scary! There are twists and turns at the end that I never saw coming! Loved it!

This book was AMAZING !! I could not put it down !! You will fall in love with Glenn and Lindsay. If you are like me when you're reading a book, you let your imagination go, you will want to read A Page From the Past.

Glenn and Lindsay own a big house in a small Massachussetts village. The downstairs is their bookstore while they live in the upstairs. The way Cindy Davis describes the store, their living area, the yards and the people, you are instantly in love and will want to move there.

On one of their trips seeking old, collectible books, they come across a young girl's diary from years ago. Lindsay, who loves to read diaries, was about to toss it aside when one word jumped out at her......murder. She was curious so she started reading it. She became obsessed with the diary which got Glenn curious also. They decided to investigate a bit and see if they could find the owner of the diary. Unfortunately as they dig for clues and follow up on leads, a black pick-up truck wants to do everything possible to prevent them from learning too much.

If you like a good story, a story that grabs you from Chapter 1 and doesn't let you go until the last page, this is the book for you. If you like trying to solve the puzzle no matter how dangerous it gets, this is the book for you. If you like reading a book that takes your breath away and totally shocks you with its ending......THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU !!!

Ms Davis' story starts in the middle of action with a van sailing over an embankment and it does not slow down. The mystery deepens and the number of suspects rise. Glenn and Lindsay Reede have a bookstore, the like of which I would love to see in my neighbourhood. They go around the surrounding area regularly and pick up old books, looking for gems, and resell them in their store. They find a decades old diary written by a teenage girl that details a murder. The diary only contains vague clues as to the girl's identity. As Glenn and Lindsay try to find out more about the girl and the murder, they start to receive threats. The danger mounts until the thrilling conclusion reveals....oh, no! I'm not going to spoil it. You'll have to read for yourself.
