Edgewich, England - 1873. After the body of a young girl is found in the woods near her home, and with the majority of the search party sent to find her now missing, the Mayor of the small town sends for a 'Vampire Hunter'.
He was the best there had ever been. But he had not been out on a hunt for three years, not since the death of the woman he loved, Mary. He was told that this was a simple investigation - find out if vampires were responsible for the girl's death, and if so, deal with them. The investigation was simple, too simple.
He found that it was just a small piece to the fulfillment of a 2000 year old prophecy in which his part was vital. Now, not knowing who he can trust, including his own ability, not only to destroy the vampires, but also to love the young woman he finds himself becoming attracted to. He must race to London to stop the vampires from having the power to walk in the sunlight and enslave the human race. He must stop the Feast of Dran Val Karlic - the Ritual of Blood.
I have had a fascination with all sorts of horror fiction since childhood, and it has been the driving force of my desire to write. After meeting Sue Townsend, the author of the Adrian Mole books, at the age of eight, I longed to be a writer. I write horror novels for both adults and teenagers.
A scintillating story of love, loss and heartbreak with an inspired ’twist’ on Vampires!
The compelling, gripping narrative had me hooked from the first page as I plunged into a darkly magnetic tale of sinister supernatural ambience and Vampirism. Ritual of Blood is the first instalment within the Vampire Hunter trilogy; a refreshingly original story filled with inspired concepts and creative flair. Reminiscent of Bram Stoker this mystical gothic tale is an intricately spun yarn of multilayered depth and dark magnetism that’s hauntingly chilling. The opening page grabs you instantly and pulls you in, with fully realized depth that keeps you awake reading late into the night. C J Wright is an accomplished author whose way with words is so convincing; it is as though he is from another time with the past very much a part of the present.
This new twist on an ancient Vampire tale is breathtakingly evocative and impressive, with a cast of interesting characters who make you wonder what secrets lie beneath the façade. I would say this deliciously spinechilling story is an eclectic mix between a modern “Dracula” and “True Blood”, although it will appeal to fans not only of Vampire books but also who enjoy reading horror fiction.
Ritual of Blood is set in 1873. After the body of a young girl is found in the woods near her home, and with the majority of the search party sent to find her now missing, the Mayor of the small town sends for a 'Vampire Hunter'. The Vampire Hunter is told that this was a simple investigation, to find out if vampires were responsible for the girl's death and if so, deal with them. However the investigation seemed just too simple… A 2000 year old prophecy, untrustworthy people and dangerous Vampires intermingle in a dark world of danger and beautiful, attractive women. The Feast of Dran Val Karlic is upon them…
This brilliant book is an unputdownable, tantalizingly tempting read and a welcome edition to the genre. I was greatly impressed by how much depth and background detail the author included within the perfectly balanced mix of drama and dialogue, brining it all so profoundly to life on the page. If you like tales that make the hairs on the back of your arms stand up and which send shivers down your spine, then I would recommend adding this to your bookshelf as a ‘must-read’! I shall be adding C J Wright to my list of favourite authors, with his book slotting alongside Barbara Hambly and Charlaine Harris. This is a book that you can really sink your teeth into…
C.J. Wright's, writing style reminds me of Bram Stoker. He has a mystical way of weaving a gothic tale; and is surely an author of another time, reincarnated from a past century. The scenes in “Ritual of Blood” are fully realized, as are his characters. This new twist on an ancient vampire tale will surely keep you up late at night.
