The Tiger Woods Syndrome: Why Men Prowl and How to Not Become the Prey
Would your nice guy cheat if he had the chance? If he cheats once, will he do it again?
Don't get stuck in a 'Tiger Woods Syndrome.'
Learn the signs of a doomed relationship—before it's too late. Women worry that 'Mr. Wonderful,' be he a husband or boyfriend, is secretly cheating on them. It's an epidemic sweeping the nation. Paranoid? Maybe not. Today's ill-fated relationships often display a common pattern now known as 'The Tiger Woods Syndrome,' a relationship built on lies—a mirage. And unfortunately, these doomed relationships are growing exponentially. What can women do to prevent our own 'Tiger Woods Syndrome' from blowing up in our faces? It's time to face facts.
In The Tiger Woods Syndrome , psychiatrist Dr. J. R. Bruns and Dr. R.A. Richards culminate a four-year examination of the common pattern of today's relationships to unearth why couples are uncoupling at such an unprecedented rate. The authors take an eye-opening look at the five-stage pattern of a 'mirage man' that begins with artificial intimacy (where physical attraction and charm is emphasized over compatibility) and explodes in the fifth stage, where both partners realize that the reasons they came together in the first place were lies. In the end, the deceptive relationship results in two bitterly disappointed partners—or in the case of Tiger Woods, it ends up on the eleven o'clock news.
Real, lasting relationships just don't work this way. The Tiger Woods Syndrome is replete with honest assessments, personal quizzes, an examination of relationships of days gone past, and real tips for healing a mirage relationship should you already be in one. This enlightening and in-depth guide exists to help break the pattern of men who cheat.
The Tiger Woods Syndrome marks the beginning of an awakening of America. Shaky relationships built on dishonesty must not be accepted as the norm. It's time to take that first step toward a relationship that is built on something that withstands the test of integrity.

I love this book. Here's a quick rundown of the book.
An encapsulation of the deceptive form of courtship
Stage 1. Artificial Intimacy – Hooking up (friends with benefits) or Joined at the hip (using sex as a bond between strangers)
Stage 2. Approval Seeking
Stage 3. Commitment/Abandonment
Stage 4. The Honeymoon
Stage 5. Resigned Compliance (The rude awakening)
a) Realization
b) Disillusionment
c) Crisis
i) Hitting Bottom
ii) Return to Insanity – mirage man redoubles his efforts to conform himself to his mate.
iii) Truce – both parties are in denial. They go on with their relationship with the unspoken agreement that neither will mention the awful truth again
iv) Ending It
v) One partner accommodates the disturbing behavior of the other. The masochistic compliant man and the controlling woman, or the misogynist man and the compliant woman.
The misogynist mirage man has the Prince Charming personality before the relationship hits the emotional peak (stage 4). He will temporarily surrender control of the relationship to get companionship and sexual favors but enters the relationship with the mind-set of disrespect and bitterness at womankind.
The compliant mirage man is mentally capable of loving women but uses deceit to gain a sexual relationship. He becomes weary of his orchestrated persona and harbors mental resentment towards his partner as his true form start to resurface.
Psychologist John Northman has found that the victims of betrayal, through hard work, can build a level of trust back up, but the initial betrayal will never be forgotten.
The two types of marriage models. A) Companionate Marriage b) Patriarchal Marriage
“Dating should be used like a scalpel, to slice thorough the extraneous and superficial to reach the significant other.” The 10 steps to have a mirage-free relationship.
1) Insist on a healthy relationship from the beginning
2) Develop your own interests and keep your boundaries
3) Determine if the man is honest
4) Don’t tell him your life story, as dishonest men yearn to gain inside perspective to build a faulty common ground to mimic your tastes and views.
5) Risk confrontation
6) Watch how he reacts to taking things slow
7) Meet the Fockers – get to know his friends and family
8) Find his true self
9) Avoid the honeymoon
10) Be ready for some shockers from the truly honest man
Highly recommended.

Don't waste your time. The main premise of the book is that (only?) men attract a woman by acting falsely, then change once they're hooked (i.e. mirage men). This explains nothing about why men prowl, cheat and have multiple lovers. And the author then solves 'not becoming prey' by being honest with each other. Hmmm, how do you make him do that? The title was crafted to create interest in the book and sell copies but it is not related to the content of the book. And the content of the book is shallow and not helpful.

This book was recommended to me by a friend. Its quite a hooker specially for those women who would like to become wiser and those who would like to know more about the male species. I've learned a lot from this books about misnomers in relationships and understanding how men behave and what leads them towards cheating.
