Rate this book
Stanislaw Dziwisz In this volume, the pope's trusted secretary speaks of suffering in John Paul's life, and close collaborator Czeslaw Drazek, SJ, reflects on how this life-experience served to confirm and authenticate the pope's signature teaching on suffering and on the dignity of every person. Dr. Renato Buzzonetti describes the principal medical interventions and care the pope received during his last days. Finally, Angelo Comastri recounts the incredible pilgrimage of faith made by people from every part of the world, who wished to pay final tribute to the beloved pontiff. A fascinating book for reliving the last days of the great John Paul a story of courage, gratitude, and love.

Easy reading about a beloved saint.
Four authors collaborated to write this book
Thus it is not flowing smoothly, but it gives a good resume about the suffering and last few days of Pope John Paul II

Quick read with only 115 pages. It covers John Paul II's final days since the failed assassination attempt on him and how he persevered to be a beacon of faith in spite of his failing health. The book also offers an introduction to John Paul II's ministry which focused on the sick and the marginalised in society as well as building strong family ties and bringing the youth back to the church. The general sense I got from the book is one that suffering can be a way of being closer to Christ and not being further away from God. It made me realise that God truly loves the sick and the poor in a special way and that pope John Paul II knew this and have proclaimed them as blessed. I felt blessed after reading this book and would highly recommend it to all Catholics and curious readers.
