Picked up this book in Windhoek - not a lot written about Namibia so was glad to find it. This is an overly romantic novel, not my usual choice - but it is quite wonderful to read about the Kalahari Desert and its beauty, the difficulty and pleasures of living there in the late 19th century. The author lost me in the tragedies that build up to Emma and her mother leaving the Kalahari for England, and the continued tragedies in their lives. But worth reading for the descriptions of the natural beauties of the desert.
