This four volume set covers the entire spectrum of pulp and paper chemistry and technology from starting material to processes and products including market demands. This work is essential for all students of wood science and a useful reference for those working in the pulp and paper industry or on the chemistry of renewable resources. Volume 2 focuses on creating an understanding of the chemical and technical processes involved in the production of pulp. The work treats
Nice technical book covering all aspects of paper mills and pulp mills, including equipment, chemical reactions, process, characterization of paper, recycling, etc. I believe it lacks a section on Process Safety Management, LOPA, HAZOP, accidents and incidents, etc. related to the chemical pulp industry. I understand this is not a safety book. However, these aspects are important in view of the accidents like the explosion in the DeRidder, LA paper mill and many others across the USA and the world. I wish it would also include a section on regulatory standards. This would be difficult to keep updated. Nevertheless. a general guidance of the most international accepted regulatory bodies or general paper industry guidelines would be a nice addition to the book. This book offers a 10,000 feet view of the chemistry and technology for paper processing. It does not get into much detail, but I understand that going into further detail would be outside of its intended scope. Good book for newcomers to the industry or for undergraduate chemical engineering students that want to know the generalities of the paper pulp chemistry and paper mill technology.
