I so enjoyed reading this book! "The Journey: The Overlanders Quest for Gold" by Bill Gallaher tells the true story of the Overlanders trials and tribulations on leaving Eastern Canada for the gold fields of the west.

Galleher elequently narrates the life adventures of Canadian pioneers, from Catherine Schubert, a secretly pregnant wife and mother determined to travel west with her husband and children, to an unintended group leader, Thomas McMicking, who takes his duties seriously.

As he should! The trail is filled with danger, hard work, rumors of unfriendly Indians and weather which just wouldn't give the Overlanders any breaks! What a tale of true Canadian history, that writer Bill Gallaher provides! You won't be able to put it down!

This book, about the Overlanders who headed west to British Columbia's Cariboo gold fields in 1862, is a page-turner. Gallaher has a straight-forward, often lyrical style that keeps you involved from beginning to end. This a great read that will bring history alive for anyone interested in the era.

Loved this book. I've read other books by this author and his female characters are always strong. I highly recommend this book and also "A Man Called Moses." Good reads!
