Mother Goose Rhymes: Las Rimas de Mama Oca
By: Brighter Child
Illustrated by: CD Hullinger

Target Audience: Toddlers and Preschoolers

This book has the classic mother goose rhymes. The best part is that in English and Spanish. I love bilingual books for several reasons. First, as a mother, I want my children to speak and read both languages. Secondly, as a teacher, I get a lot of newcomers in my classroom, and these are fun books my students can read and practice their new language. The illustrations cover the entire page. They are simple but vibrant. In the beginning of the book, the author gives a quick note for teachers and parents of the children reading the book, strategies of how the book can be used to help the child become a more fluent reader. I believe this is a nice gesture of the author because many parents do not know what strategies to use to help their children. The most important strategy for any parent is just to read to their children, but some also like specific examples. I like this book and cannot wait to reread it with my daughters.

Cute illustrations and both English and Spanish versions of familiar Mother Goose rhymes. This is a nice book to have in a bilingual classroom or just to encourage young children to learn other languages.

Las Rimas de Mama Oca is an adorable book. The book features all the rhymes we heard as a kids in both English and Spanish. The book includes rhymes like Humpty Dumpty ( Jumpeti Dumpeti), Jack and Jill ( Yago y Marina) and many more. The book is fun to read and practice Spanish or just trying to say the words for fun. This is a great book for any classroom or when trying to raise bilingual children.

A bilingual book, Mother Goose Rhymes = Las Rimas de Mama Oca, is appropriate for children between the age of 0-12 months. By providing multiple opportunities to engage in such practices as singing and talking, phonological awareness development is explicitly supported and acknowledges the developmental preference of a baby between 1 ½ to 3 months for music and the sound of the caregiver’s voice.

I did not care for the illustrations. My husband didn't care for the translations. My son enjoys the book. That still didn't persuade me to give this a better rating. I have found better Mother Goose books that we all can enjoy.
