Rate this book
Whether it’s a treasure hunt on Jewell Island, Maine, a sunny afternoon on the rocks at Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, or a dip in the ocean on Prince Edward Island, life by the sea is fun. This gloriously illustrated picture book is a celebration of all things humpback whales, teeming wildlife, and most of all, people who make their homes by the ocean. Seaside life is shown in twenty-six magnificent illustrations. The alliterative text and the detailed notes at the back make the book as informative as it is beautiful. For those lucky enough to have visited the coast, as well as those who only dream of the sea, this book is a feast for the eyes and for the spirit.

A seaside alphabet is a book that goes through the entire alphabet listing words that come from the sea or the coastline. Students will learn about currents, winds, tides, islands, beaches, cliffs, and marshes. Students will be informed about how weather on the coast is unpredictable and changeable due to the effect on the sea.

Two Activities for using the book
1. This is a great book to use with children who are learning about the sea. Each student in the classroom will write a sentence with a different letter in the alphabet and draw a picture with something they learned from the book. The students will make their own book for the classroom.
2. The children can find a list of things that start with that certain letter on each page. For example on the A page, the children will find animals, auburn, apples, acorns, etc.
