I’ve been reading lots of books about Georgia O’Keeffe since being at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe last month. This was the first in which I got a good feel for who she was as a person, through her letters, in a way a bit of a window into her true self. Interestingly, and I don’t know why, the choice was made in this book not to include any letters she wrote to her husband, Alfred Stieglitz, during the months she was away from him in NM (he was in NY). The later letters seemed more full of business than personal sentiments, and I wish she’d revealed more about her own inner workings in them as she had in the earlier ones.
