To be honest I got a little bored. It's a really long book that can get a little tiring to read.

Written in the mid-1960s, so it's dated obviously. But still explains a lot about Scandinavian culture and the Scandinavian approach to life, politics, government, etc. The book is most dated in its coverage on women's roles and progress in Scandinavian countries. (For example, the word "girls" is used liberally even when the author is clearly speaking of women well past their teens and twenties.) Also, it's clear the author has more intimate knowledge of some of the countries covered than others, as there's an imbalance in how much info we get about some of the countries. I would've liked more on Norway in general, and less on Sweden in general. I read this same author's book "The Irish" a long long time ago and would like to re-read it.

This is a broad look at the geography, people, culture, history and more of the region and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
