Benny Bear has grown too big for his old cubbyhole. but when he goes looking for a new one, the cubbyholes are too high, too tiny, too smelly or too wet. When the rigth cubbyhole turns up...it's not where Benny expects!
Benito the bear is the cutest bear! The way he's depicted in all his roly-polyness reminds me of Kevin Henkes's Old Bear, which was another serendipitous find. The story itself is the familiar trope of searching for a place to call home only to find that what you've been looking for was there all along. I picked up this book for free as a leftover library discard; it'll now have a place on my shelf. :)
Personal Reaction: I thought this book was cute and really good illustrations. It was an easy read and would make for a good, simple story at the end of the day.
Purpose: Would be for children's enjoyment and enrichment. Could introduce the difference between too/two/to. It tells about a bear or goes searching for a place to hibernate only to realize that his home is where he was meant to be all along. Great illustrations for the kids to look at. Has repetition where kids could join in.
The story is cute. I really rather enjoyed it. Although, I think Benito Bear is not too bright. I would have thought about widening my existing burrow first rather than looking to invade someone else's.
