Two short sagas about scalds in love. Gunnlaug can't quite decide whether to pursue fortune, as a court poet abroad, or romance, in the form of the lovely Helga the Fair. Fate upbraids him severely in the form of a rival poet.

Scald-Helgi is thwarted in his suit for Thorkatla, his childhood love, and both lovers' lives are poisoned thereafter.
