Back in the Golden Age of comics it seemed that every comic book series that featured a variety of features had at least one jungle adventure strip. These either featured what were referred to as jungle lords (and ladies) a la Tarzan, or the great white hunter types, a la Jungle Jim. Eventually someone came up with the idea that if one jungle feature in a comic was good then surely a comic that featured nothing but jungle heroes and heroines would be really good. Thus was born Jungle Comics from Fiction House. This book contains a nice mix of strips. Even where the strips are featuring the loin-clothed jungle lords there is some variation to the feautures. One of the features concerns a member of the Congo Lancers while there is also one about a lion. This was an enjoyable comic. I am sure where all the stories came from. This volume hasn't been indexed on the GCD. However I am thinking that most of the stories are from the actual first issue of Fiction House's Jungle Comics series. However there are actually more pages for stories in this issue so at least something had to come from elsewhere. Still this is a good comic especially if you have an interest in jungle adventures. A good sample of the material that came out in the Golden Age. Happy reading.

Some of the art is charming. Much of it is not. And as is common in the genre, it's got some messed up racism. Not as bad as I expected. But...not great. Mostly, it was just kinda blah.
