In writing It's as plain as Black and White, my goal is to create a dialogue about race and racism by sharing how race and racism impacted my life. My purpose for writing about racism further involves sharing some of my personal and professional experiences while illustrating how those experiences were building blocks rather than stumbling blocks. You see, throughout my life, I have refused to allow the actions of others to negatively shape me. I want to inspire people. I want to help create an atmosphere where open and honest dialogue is encouraged based on truth, facts, and data. I want to be a conduit for hope, illustrating that despite disadvantages, success is always possible. As a country and as a people, we have made great strides towards racial equality during my lifetime. Fast forward to today, many of those great strides have either been diminished or marginalized. I believe It's as Plain as Black and White truely resonates with our present-day situation. It appears that today, division, politics, and an unwillingness to acknowledge facts and express empathy for others is the new standard. If true, we live in perilous times but there is always hope.
