About the author

Dr. Allan O. Kownslar was an American academic and historian. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Trinity University (San Antonio, Texas), then earned a doctorate in the same field at Carnegie-Mellon University (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). He joined the Trinity faculty in 1971, and quickly became a nationally recognized expert on social studies curriculum development. He also wrote and/or edited several successful history textbooks. Professor Kownslar retired from active teaching in 2015, and spent his final years as Professor Emeritus of History at Trinity University.
