This is not the version I read. I wish it were. The text is often confusing for me. Having commentary would have been helpful. But I stuck witth it - looking things up along the way and learned so much about my faith. It took quite awhile as I read just a little each morning. Glad I completed it. I can now say I read the entire bible as I have read the new testament more than once. That's a good thing.

The notes in this edition of the Douay Rheims Bible are great, perfect for study or meditation. On the other hand, I do have a few gripes about the edition. Many footnotes use archaic English (like "shew", "wilt", "dost", "teacheth", etc.) The chapters use Roman numerals rather than Arabic numbers. Plus, the large size (almost 11 in. by 8 1/2 in.) means it doesn't really fit easily in the hand.
