A world of fast living and heavily processed foods is a toxic world. Our method of cooking food right down to the products we coat our skin in aids us in accomplishing a "toxitarian" lifestyle. This lifestyle can shorten our lifespan and create illness. The Remedy is a really informative book that truly goes beyond normal detox diets. Supa Nova Slom talks about his life growing up and how his toxic body was also further polluting his lifestyle and choices. He talks about love and willpower and how he brought his diet beyond a vegan lifestyle to that of a Chlorophyllian, which he describes as a diet considering of 70 percent greens (green juice) and legumes and other things. He even talks about the importance of water in the diet, the best sources of toxic free water, colon health and completely breaks down the diet. This book is packed with useful information to completely energize you and completely change your life and the way you look at food!
I think this is a fantastic book for someone who is trying to clean up their diet, as well as their bodies. I am not going to lie, the cleanse/detox only on liquids wasn't easy for 4 days... but I noticed an immediate improvement in my skin, hair, and energy level.
Although I disagree with some of Supa Nova Slom's statements (like meat not containing water), much of his information (although he doesn't provide references in the back) can be verified if you do your research.
I really appreciated the pragmatic approach to becoming a vegan. When I first started the vegan thing over a year ago, I wished I had some more of the practical advice than what was provided to me through PETA or some of my vegan friends. All in all, it's an easy read with a lot of information.
All in all, the book does deliver its promises if you follow the plan to a T.
I purchased and read this book because the author is the son of Queen Afua. I have a great deal of respect for Queen Afua and I want to support her family's important work.
For me, the information in this book was nothing new; rather, it served as a refresher course. Supa Nova's target market is the hip-hop community. At times, I found it difficult to appreciate his writing style. Regardless, I consider this book the Urban response to SKINNY BITCHES. However, Nova's approach is much more holistic and the foods he suggest are accessible to people of all socioeconomic groups. Additionally, he focuses on live plants and vegetables rather than processed meat replacements.
In my opinion, this book is valuable and will serve its target market well. I already have in mind someone I will be gifting with my copy.
There isn't technically anything in this that is brand spanking new, but something about the way it was written and presented just really inspired me. If you want to get serious about cleansing, take a look.
While I found it to be a bit much as a whole for me, I did find some tips and points I will be taking from it. I also know just the person in my group of friends who will love it and I am sure will be living it.
I get what this book is trying to do, but there seems to be a lot of information in here that is not backed up by any sort of science. The use of health buzz-phrases is a peeve of mine. Claiming that some green powder is going to "bathe your cells in oxygen" is ridiculously false. I actually agree with a lot of the concepts he writes about, I'm just very wary of any book that doesn't include a list of sources at the end. Pseudo-health claims make all of us who embrace the lifestyle look like a bunch of morons, you know?
A useful approach to nutrition for nutrition educators. The metaphors he uses are useful for working in programs tailored to the hip-hop generation. I wouldn't recommend to non-nutritionists b/c it isn't a completely reliable source of nutrition info ex. claims there's no water in meat. That's not true.
A five-week plan to detox, including recipes and exercises. Has a lot of good ideas, especially increasing green foods (blue-green algae and wheatgrass) and includes a good recipe for Supa Mega Greens formula (a homemade green food formula).
I am at then end of the initial cleanse. This is an introduction to juicing as a component of supplementing which ever diet you choose. I have experience an increase of energy and focus. Ironically I have been calmer and less nervous talking. I am enjoying this process.
Good information, detox ritual, recipes, exercises . You have it all in this book. May not be the best detox book i have read but sure is motivating to help me stick to my greens (chlorophyll intake). Tak away main crux of the book supa greens powdered concoction he asks to take daily
I don't think I will ever try this detox (even if I'm REALLY desperate) but I learned a lot from this book, very informative. I got this book for free through Goodreads First Reads giveaway.
