William provides sound advice for consultants looking to take their career to the next level. Can be read cover to cover or by reading whichever chapter is relevant for the reader at that time. It has been a very helpful resource as I make the switch to independent consulting.
Useful "nuts & bolts" advice for getting a consulting business up and running, although the 90-Day title is a little misleading...many of the author's concepts and recommendations will take a lot longer than that to execute. The book is also more more appropriate for people trying to establish a consulting firm--less so for independent consultants. But overall there's some good advice for anyone looking to forge ahead into the consulting business.
One of those "Reference" kind of books that you read, gain information and ideas from. You then put on a shelf close by and refer back to! I wish there was another chapter with more detail to billing and software for tracking billable time and expenses. For example the TimeSlips software I use.
"Consulting is a personal relationship. You do not want to compound the fact (and it is a fact) that a client's problems are usually people problems and not technical ones. The consulting you aspire to means you must deal with people issues behind the complex problems at a client" (93).
A good book for those who want to start a consulting business. Most of the advice applies to any sort of entrepreneurship. There is an action plan in the end of each chapter.
