The Shapes and Patterns of Music Volume I

Rate this book
The Shapes and Patterns of Music is primarily a book for sight reading but can be a lot more. The concept is designed around three note shapes, continuously modulating up and back in half steps then whole steps then minor thirds, major thirds, fourths, fifths. While using this book as a sight reading tool, the user is also learning improvisation, melodic expression, modulation, ear training, rhythmic phrasing. As the book progresses, the intervals widen and the challenge becomes gradually more difficult in all areas. The exercises train the eye to keep track and move while recognizing shapes in different time signatures and phrases. This book is an excellent tool for improving sight reading for all musicians.
