This guide for all types of visual and performing artists describes ways to find, secure, fix up, and finance a large studio space. Coverage includes, for example, real estate negotiation, construction tips, zoning issues, design basics, building materials, permits and inspections, conserving energy, and artists' group buildings. A sample commercial lease is included in the appendix. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
This is a handbook on where and what to look for if you want to buy a building and set up an art studio. I gave me lots of good ideas. The suggestions are to look for a building that is run down enough to be cheap but still sound enough to be usable. Look to unusual sources not just office buildings. I really found this book inspiring.
