Even the most die hard of motorcyclists can't ride--or work on--their bikes all the time. So in those moments away from that precious Triumph, Suzuki, or Harley, Cycle World columnist and writer Peter Egan comes to the rescue--taking all kinds of riders along with him on his journeys. Part self-effacing humor, part philosophy, part nostalgia, Egan's pieces remind us not only of all that matters in the motorcycle world, but in the world at large. In Leanings 2, more of his writing (four features and 95 columns) is collected into one volume, giving readers another taste of his best work. From a trip down the Mississippi to find the grave of blues artist Robert Johnson to rearranging his garage for optimal motorcycle ikebana, Peter Egan's stories hit home with all of us who define our good times with motorcycles. To get his view on how much your motorcycle habit really costs, which rock 'n' roll artists exemplify which bikes, the fine art of carrying motorcycle gear, and much more, crack open this book. It is for everyone who rides a motorcycle--and who has a soul.
So sad to be done with this collection of Cycle World columns and features. I limited myself to one per day to stretch the enjoyment as long as possible. They are the perfect combination of informative and entertaining. Recommend to anyone who rides or is remotely interested in motorcycling.
Eagan is one of the best motorcycling/auto writers of my generation. And for those of you who do not have any passion for cars or bikes, his writing and insights on life go deeper than the vehicles. As I neared the end of this book I slowed down. Savoring the final pages. That for me is the sign that I am deeply appreciative of the writing and the reading experience. If you ride and read Eagan, then your first reaction to his words is to head to the garage and grab your helmet.
Another amazing zen like read.....I was never a long distance motorcyclist however many of his stories have me itching to try...Unfortunately I have a mate who hates motorcycles....Until such time I get the nerve to do what I want without fear of repercussions, onto Egans 3rd book in this series....Its kinda like riding a 1000 mile day....
Another collection of the author's columns from Cycle World magazine. As with the first "Leanings," this collection is entertaining and instructive, perfect for that cold winter evening when you just want to relax with a good book and a cup of hot cocoa.
A second helping of sweet sensations from one of the best automotive/cycling authors in the biz. Egan takes us from a search for legendary bluesman Robert Johnson's grave back to his garage, where he explains where we park our bikes is as important as where we ride them.
