John's fourth book, You Were Never Born, addresses the perennial and compelling question of our true identity. With his usual clarity and focus he answers questions from seekers in over seventy concise chapters of dialogues and in a departure from the format of his previous published collections, John has written an introductory set of prose pieces as well as a summary of 'pointers' toward the end of the text. Also included as an addendum is an extended one-to-one interview with John. A clear and beautiful guide to any aspirant of self-knowledge.
"You Were Never Born" speaks of a philosophy that attempts to clarify our real identity and the purpose of our lives. Non-Dual Theory states that we are not the independent self or individual personality. Our real nature is totally free of suffering, pain, doubt, fear and, is on the contrary, undisturbed peace and joy. Our minds create the illusion of an unsubstantiated individual self. Awareness is our real identity that cannot be reached through mind, thinking or any intellectual pursuits. In my opinion, Non-Dual Theory, is a concept almost impossible to accept through intellectual means. Denying our individual existence in lieu of Non-Dual Theory which advocates an eternal Awareness may be too much of a leap to accept.
