Your Van Is On Fire

Rate this book
‘Your Van Is On Fire’ is a riotous and charming melange of a touring musician’s meandering life. Part memoir, part meditation and part art gallery, Seth Walker’s first book shares a series of one-of-a-kind, personal accounts of his time spent in perpetual motion searching for the muse. It’s ironic that the quarantine surrounding the 2020 pandemic which ground so many artists’ careers to a halt was the impetus for Walker’s most ambitious artistic endeavor, which involved conceptualizing a narrative for the many short essays, poems and paintings he’d accumulated over a near 30-year career.

This book is more like a buffet at Ryan's Steak House than a meandering journey though musical valley of self expression. It's full of great stuff to enjoy in every chapter but you just know you are missing something. I share connections with Mr. Walker ... we both grew up around Asheville, we spent a ton of time in Texas, and music is a constant force of life. His poems are textured, his stories funny, and his visual art is soothing. It's a quick read and when you are done ... you look forward to his next book. My 2 cents. Seth is a great writer and I enjoyed this book. I was expecting more of a story line rather than abstract meanderings, but the more I read, the more I realized how special this book actually is. It is a compilation of his highs and lows as a working musician, but written from a very personal and poetic point of view. He gives you a glimpse of his soul in this one. I enjoyed the ride.

I really enjoyed this book. I’m a fan of Seth Walker’s music and loved the insights into the experiences that helped shape his path. It was funny and insightful and honest. The art is wonderful, the poetry is creative and inspired. Looking forward to the next meanderings!
