Waterfalls of the Smokies is a totally-revised and greatly-expanded, full-color guide to over 40 waterfalls in the Smokies. It includes maps, photographs, and detailed directions to each waterfall, including elevations and difficulty of hike. The handy pocket size features rounded corners and long-lasting sewn binding. Published by Great Smoky Mountains Association.
Although small, this book is highly informative and covers pretty much all of the waterfalls in the Smoky Mountain national park. Each page focuses on the specifics of each waterfall, including a detailed, illustrative map on how to get there. There are also beautiful colored photographs of each waterfall, which look like a postcard. This read was especially helpful to me when looking for a specific trail near the visitors center.
Nice short book detailing many of the main trails leading to waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains. Descriptions are brief, but accurate, maps and directions given and beautiful photos provided. But I think the photos must be photoshopped - making each falls appear more frothy, full, and white than they are. I have been to most all these falls, some several times, and few appear as they look in this book. I'd rather see an accurate picture, and be surprised that the falls was more beautiful when I arrived, than to hike in with the visual images in this book ... and then find a trickle or a small fall of water cascading down the rocks.
This handy pocket guide will give you all the information you need to drive/hike to more than 40 waterfalls in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Included are photos and descriptions of each waterfall, trail information, and driving directions. The topo trail maps and elevation charts are especially helpful for gauging the amount of effort required to access each waterfall. This book goes in my daypack every time I hike to a waterfall in the Smokies. I highly recommend it!
