A lightning bug flew between Nick and me. Both of us reached for it, out palms cupped. We missed the bug, but our fingers touched and somehow Nick was holding my two hands in his, and he didn't turn them loose.
The summer Edie dreaded turned out to be magic! When she leaves Chicago to visit her father in the little town he's moved to, she doesn't expect to meet someone like Nick - serious, sensitive, and tender.
But he's older, a college student, and already has a girlfriend. Even so, Edie's never felt so attracted to a boy, and wonders if she's falling in love....
Bring *all* of your suspension of disbelief for this one. You’ll need it for all the nuttiness: 1. Half-baked romance 2. Batshit crazy mystery house plot 3. And, last but definitely not least, a dad being totally onboard with his 17-year-old daughter dating a 21-year-old man. Hahahaha...no. Not even in the 80s.
A so-so book ( I've read better by Maud Johnson ) that can't make up it's mind as to whether it's- a romance with a mystery side plot? - or a mystery with a romantic side plot? Unfortunately both are sabotaged. The romance is hampered by the old hat - how-can-I-compare-with-his-gorgeous-ex element ( with the most romantic moment sighted in the blurbs description - and brings to mind Sandra Dee & Troy Donahue in A Summer Place. ) Worst however, is the mystery of a boarded up house which is solved before any excitement can be generated or any clues dropped. Love the cover though! And there is a sweet scene between the heroine and her father that almost makes up for the draggy read.( a longer reviewer is up on my site http://cliqueypizza.wordpress.com/ if you want to check it out! )
