Ever since 2019, I've been awaiting the sequel to Robert Meuller's tounge-in-cheek crime-comedy 'The Meuller Report.' Although written by different authors, this release of the 'January 6th Committee Report' serves as spiritual successor and directly continues to the story of the main character, 'Individual One'. In 'The Jan 6th Committee Report', the narrative focus is shifted from foreign influence to the domestic sphere, providing an interesting spin on the original story. Although the repetition of election meddling as a prominent theme in both works marrs the originality of the sequel, the authors have none-the-less raised the stakes appropriate for a sequel and delivered important character development - including naming the Main Character, who was known only as 'Individual 1' in the original - and listened to long-time fans of the series' disappointment with the ending of the original. Ultimately, the January 6th Committee Report is a worthy sequel that takes thematic and procedural inspiration from the original, but delivers a tighter and more satisfying narrative with raised stakes, thrilling action, and moving characters. Beginning in medias res with a violent assault on the governing capital, the story follows an "Oceans 11" team of investigators working to piece together the events of the day in true crime-thriller fashion. The one weakness is a longstanding down point in the series - the almost unbelievable stupidity, conceit and recklessness of the main character extends beyond satire, stretching possible suspension of disbelief. Overall, I look forward to where the series goes in the future, with several spin-off series planned in New York State. 4/5 stars.
