Surprisingly, one of the most interesting parts of the book for me was the exploration of rape culture and social attitudes towards victims of sexual violence in Russia. Her treatment of domestic violence was also nuanced without sacrificing moral clarity, showing why Lina stayed without delving into victim blaming.
