True Calling #3

Unsung Sage

Rate this book
“Is it always like this with you? Crazy fights against even crazier monsters? Mind-melting magic items? Whole world teetering on the brink of disaster?”

After Zack’s revelation, Ike leaves the party and travels alone, arriving at a ruined tower above the quiet mountain village of Glyncroes. He tells himself it’s to keep everyone safe, but can he even do this alone? How long will it take for his party to find him? Will a mask be enough to hide his identity? And why does everyone keep mistaking him for the Unsung Sage of myth?

Ike’s solitude is cut short by a miniature Vix and a cat folk shaman named Kit, who teaches him more about the mysterious power of his animus. Familiar faces abound, however, as True Calling forces Ike to confront the ghosts of his past, including an old enemy whose help he’ll need to find the next Sage Key.

The search will take Ike to Blightmyre, the cursed capital city in the Blighted Lands of Rilimar. Horrific demons, enthralled slaves, mournful specters, vampire warlocks, and their dark queen stand between him and the next piece of the puzzle. But will he be up to the challenge when he’s not even sure who he is anymore?

WOW!! is the first thing that comes to mind as far as summarizing this work of art. Without giving away details, the author truly makes this a masterpiece. As with the other books in this series it has the same flow as the others except I will warn you these books are addictive. However, the personality of the characters really comes out well, especially conveying the emotional pull you have for not just the protagonists but the antagonists as well. The surprises and plot twists are shocking and exciting. Yet again I must say when reading this book, you don’t really read it you experience it. As though it is an adventure with a rush of adrenaline , and it truly does a good job of pulling you into the story so you feel like your apart of every victory and every downfall. Does the hero save the day or not ? Well only way to find out is to start reading or listening and begin your adventure. Just ask yourself, what will you do to get your world first ?

Another great installment in the True Calling series. A slight slow burn at the beginning as the threads of the previous book come back together, the story gets underway in a big way. Unsung Sage continues the more traditional style of Relic Tamer with less of the videogame interface forward nature of Original Enchantment. I'm very much looking forward to the fourth installment and what other world building we might see.

Fascinating developments

I most definitely wasn’t expecting that ending! Ike certainly has some big decisions to make, but if his suspicions are correct, he’s going up against someone who is clearly formidable. Hopefully, we will learn more about their motivations and methods before the end.

Guiding a story and railroading a story are two very different things.

Guess which this does? The first third gives hope for a change in tone which the second third destroys. This is done in a way that makes the first part pointless filler. The ending is about as shoehorned in as earthly possible.

Another Great Book!

After getting over the slow start to the book, it was great. I couldn't put it down.

I'm also not knocking the slow start as it's needed to resolve some of the stuff from the last book and set up the rest of this book.

This is an excellent read with fantastic character development. Well worth it. Hanging on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next.
