Nicholas Brewer holds a secret, a dark part of himself that often takes over until his other self appears known as Cole. The problem is that one doesn’t remember what the other has done and on wants to feel loved and needed, while the other is happy keeping people at a distance. When Nicholas rescues a young woman brutally beaten, he sees her as a fresh start pretending to be her husband in order to keep her safe.
Trissa Kirk has been trying to avoid her father when he is drunk, often she hides but one day she is not that lucky. Now in the hospital and refusing to say who beat her, Nicholas becomes an unexpected ally who is willing to continue the façade and give her a chance at a fresh life. With a new home filled with a unique group of people everything is going smoothly until a murder has Cole reemerging and trying to push Trissa away.
