Lord of the Lodge

Her trip did have a hidden purpose

But it wasn't one she could reveal to Brent Tremaine, the handsome, arrogant owner of Leisure Lodge, on New Zealand's Kapiti Coast--no matter how attracted she was to him.

For though she was staying as a guest, Lana's real interest was in a man who worked for Brent--the father Lana had never known.

The last thing in the world she intended was to cause trouble for anyone. Yet when Brent entirely misinterpreted her interest in the older man, Lana found herself almost overwhelmed by the conflicts raging around her!

This was a surprisingly sweet story about adoption. A young woman named Lana learns that her biological father may be working not far away at the Leisure Lodge. She takes a short vacation there in order to just see him for the first time. She was given as a baby to her adoptive parents and was told her mother died in childbirth and that her biological father was so grief stricken that he couldn’t even look at her.

Once at the Lodge an opportunity arises for her to work at the lodge covering for the young receptionist who wants to attend a family wedding. Almost as eager to learn about her biological father as Lana is, are her two twin sisters Raewyn and Bronwyn. The two are so curious they take a day trip just to check him out for themselves. The one fly in the ointment is the handsome lodge owner, Brent Tremaine…who thinks she has an unhealthy interest in older men…older married men, thanks to her seeming fascination with his employee, who along with his wife are a big reason why the Lodge runs as smoothly as it does.

In addition to the overarching adoption story, my enjoyment came from the setting…New Zealand’s Kapiti Coast. I have very fond memories of my trip to New Zealand and it was fun revisiting it as a backdrop in this story.

Overall it was a nice and light read. I liked the background/setting descriptions of New Zealand and almost all characters were quite likable. However, i felt that the mystery of the relationship between the h and her real dad was a bit stretched. I wonder why it couldn't be figured out earlier and the H was just so jealous making disgusting insinuation s. Morever, I was glad the ow wasn't strong enough to do much damage since the H was so obviously in love with heroine from beginning. Good pastime.

Hero & heroine were likeable people, witty dialogues & heroine doesn’t take crap from OW. Some dialogues does run in circles about her “purpose” at the lodge but eh, whatever…
