The Mimbres Twins and The Rabbit in the Moon

Rate this book
Throughout this book the figures are from thousand-year-old Mimbres bowls. This narrative is based on ancient painted Maya pottery, a historic text from Guatemala, and Pueblo folklore, a similar tale from distant places and times.

Tales of Hero Twins are common to the Native Americas. Mimbres painted bowl interiors illustrate the adventures of cultural heroes known as the Mimbres Twins. The saga begins with twin brothers from a previous generation who became the father and uncle of the Mimbres Twins. After their deaths the older brothers became the evening and morning stars, really two aspects of the planet Venus, the third brightest object in the sky. The spirit of the planet Venus in ancient America was male and associated with warfare, rather than female and associated with love as in European traditions
