Effective Teaching & Riding: Exploring Balance And Motion

Rate this book
Riding instructors have two main motion mediator and educator. Most equestrian education books focus soley on the technical aspects of training the horse or the rider. Effective Teaching and Riding takes into account the individuality of each horse and rider while integrating the unique facets of riding in a new, practical approach to teaching riding and to riding itself. Meyners has developed a series of simple, easy movements to relax the rider's body and improve communication between horse and rider. Meyners also teaches concrete exercises to use on and off the horse to increase the effectiveness of both riders and instructors.

An exceptional book with great insight into muscle mechanics and how horse and rider fit together. There were so many great pieces to this book from the mood of the instructor setting the tone for learning, to finding ways to release tension in the body. Noticing that the place that holds tension in the riders body is often not where the problem lies. Look for places like the jaw, or shoulders to release tension in the lower extremities. Having structure and progression in each well thought out lesson are just some of the great information shared. I really enjoyed the chapter on riding as a dialogue - just the concept alone is great. Riding is communication that is given and taken by both the horse and the rider. It should never be one sided.

I highly recommend reading this book to anyone that would like to grow their skill as an instructor and rider.
